Who we are
Why Capstan?
When explaining the significance of Holland, Michigan's iconic DeZwaan Windmill, Alisa Crawford, the windmill's miller, states that "It's not just a windmill; it's a working machine producing a product that then blesses our local community."
We feel the same way about the developments we're a part of: they're not just car washes, condos, or hotels; they're a means of adding value to the communities in which they're built.
That's why it was fitting for us to choose a name that both represents where we come from and the impact of what we do.
On the DeZwaan Windmill--a prominent symbol of Holland's Dutch heritage--the capstan wheel is used to turn the windmill's cap so that its sails can harness the power of the wind from any direction. Once harnessed, the wind power can be used to turn a one-ton millstone that grinds wheat into flour.
For us, the name Capstan reminds us of the values on which our community was founded and of the work that it will take to add value to our own and other communities, one development at a time.
